21st Century Classroom
This is a school we visited in Rajkot, Gujarat, India. As you can see from the video the students were not expecting us. But we asked them to tell us about what they were studying, and they immediately began impromptu presentations.Not only did they explain the content they were learning, they also talked about their learning styles, showed us their Thinking Maps, and told us about teaching other students in other schools - from soccer to English language.
What do you notice about this classroom? The teacher is hardly to be seen. This is a Student-Centered classroom. The project/unit is interdisciplinary - incorporating art, science, history, geography, environmental studies and more. They are actually connecting pre-history to the present and the future! The students are utilizing all kinds of thinking skills, As you can see they are highly motivated! |
Student products are on display everywhere, demonstrating that their needs (as identified by William GLasser, M.D.) for:
- Need to belong and to love (they are obviously a well-developed community/team)
- Need for power
- Need for freedom
- Need for fun
