Designing the Pilot Project
The Pilot Project will need to be designed down (or backwards) from the ultimate goal, and planning the Pilot Project will be guided by the following questions:
1. What is it that we want teachers and students to know, be able to do and to be like as a result of this pilot project?
2. What concepts and/or skills are we helping students, teachers and parents to develop?
3. What experiences can we provide to teachers and students which will enable them to develop these concepts and learn these skills?
4. How will we know that the teachers and students have accomplished these goals?
Thinking - Design- Critical - Constructive - Creative
Look at the four pictures below. Think about what you see. Think about what you do not see.
Are students working independently, self-directed and interdependently?
Are students seated in rows facing the front of the classroom?
Where are the teachers, and if you see them, what are they doing - lecturing or facilitating?
Where are the workbooks, worksheets and textbooks?
Which Thinking Tools are students using (or did they use in creating their final product)?
What types of thinking are evident? Critical Thinking, Design Thinking, Creative Thinking, Problem Solving, Analytical Thinking. . . . . .?
Are these activities, projects and thinking tools helping students to become Innovators and/or Entrepreneurs?
What problems will students of today face, and have to solve, in 10, 20, 30 years or more? How can we prepare them?
